We’re huge advocates of writing your own wedding vows. They are the most meaningful part of your wedding day, after all. We spend so much time fretting over the littler aspects of the ceremony: the reception, the colors, the centerpieces, the cake. 20 years from now, what will matter more – the way the cake looked, or the words you spoke to one another from your hearts?
The wedding-day memories you’ll cherish most will be of standing up in front of everyone, looking your partner in the eyes, and committing to a lifetime with them through your vows. The rest of the ceremony – the decorations, the food, the clothes – are really just dressing for the wedding vows.
Writing your own wedding vows is a powerful way to personalize your wedding ceremony. Wedding vows give guests a peek into your relationship, and present a chance to share the love you feel with both their subject and all the important people in your life. Consequently, writing your own wedding vows can be a daunting task. How on earth to convey all those powerful feelings and emotions in a meaningful and poetic way?
If you’re struggling to come up with the right words for your personalized wedding vows, let us help. That’s why we’ve put together the Brook Farm Wedding Vow Weekend!
Brook Farm’s Wedding Vow Weekend workshop is your chance to get a little help with those all important vows while also enjoying a relaxing weekend in the Berkshires.
You’ll receive help and guidance composing your wedding vows from Reverend Dr. John A. Nelson. Dr. Nelson is Pastor of Church on the Hill in Lenox, MA and one of the coolest pastors in New England. Coincidentally, he also happens to be one of the innkeepers at Brook Farm Inn!
John is a featured writer in the StillSpeaking writer’s group, which furnishes a daily devotional message to subscribers. John is a Shakespeare buff, bilingual, and is known for his “way with words,” which his congregations have praised since 1996. He was a stage manager before attending seminary, so the flow of a ceremony and the “right words” are things that come quite naturally to him.
