Did you know that members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra perform intimate concerts of chamber music each summer at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Lenox, MA?
The Curtisville Consortium is made up of several Boston Symphony players who summer here. While much of the player’s summer hours are spent at Tanglewood, they still make the time to come and play in Lenox on their nights off.
The group was founded in 1969 when BSO members and their families in the Interlaken area of Stockbridge decided to share their musical passions with the Lenox area community. Interlaken was once home to a small community called Curtisville, hence the group’s name. That first series of concerts was a success and 48 years later and they’re still at it, much to our collective benefit.
Performances by the Curtisville Consortium are known for their relaxed and casual air. Due to the venue, audiences are up close to the players. This intimacy, rather than feeling crowded, makes each performance a personal, special occasion. You often come away feeling as if the concert was just for you and a few close friends.
The group could hardly have picked a better venue.
Trinity Episcopal Church is a historic, stone church built in 1888 in the Gothic Revival style that is on the National Register of Historic Places . The high stone steeple, unusually beautiful windows, rich and intricate woodcarvings, and other classic features make the church worthy of a visit all on its own.
If you’re going to be in the Berkshires around the following dates, we highly recommend seeing this amazing group.
