Fabulous View of the Berkshires From Mt. Greylock

June 29th, 2010 by philhalpern

We had the distinct pleasure recently of driving the newly paved road to Bascom Lodge, at the top of Mt. Greylock.  It’s only 1/2 hour from our Lenox B&B, and we recommend this jaunt to anyone who wants to hike part of the Appalachian Trail, or just to see the spectacular views. At 3,491 feet, Mount Greylock is the [...]

Hummingbirds Return to Brook Farm Inn

May 22nd, 2010 by philhalpern

This morning at breakfast guests of Brook Farm Inn were delighted to see hummingbirds at the feeder outside the dining room window. Additionally, we were visited by an indigo bunting and a pileated woodpecker visited the tree stump in our back yard. After living most of my life in urban areas where wildlife was squirrels [...]

Today we had a visit from our friends Brian and Charlotte from Aspinwall Adult Equestrian Center. They stopped by on two beautiful Icelandic horses. They dropped off some brochures for Berkshire Horseback Adventures. Many of our guests enjoy riding along the beautiful shaded trails of Kennedy Park and Lenox Mountain. You can enjoy breathtaking views [...]

May 13th, 2010 by philhalpern

In the Berkshires, we’re proud to claim the tallest peak in Massachusetts, Mt. Greylock.  This weekend the new road to the summit will open for the season, and Bascom Lodge opens for visitors as well.  At the summit of Mt. Greylock, the lodge offers a restaurant, a gift shop, hiking information, but most especially the [...]

Golf Courses Opening In The Berkshires

April 3rd, 2010 by philhalpern

Throughout the Berkshires the golf courses are beginning to open. Yesterday, I played my first round of the year at my favorite course, Greenock Country Club. The beautiful award winning nine hole course had a couple of damp spots but the drainage work they did last year made the playing condition excellent. My first drive [...]

Snow Falling on Brook Farm Inn

March 2nd, 2010 by philhalpern

February ended with several snow falls with varying amounts of accumulation.   The attached video was taken in the back yard of Brook Farm Inn during one of the recent storms.  The local towns have done a good job keeping the roads clear and our guests have been enjoying great downhill and cross country ski conditions.  Linda and I have [...]

Winter Wonderland in the Berkshires

January 4th, 2010 by philhalpern

The snow-filled scene from Brook Farm Inn, a Lenox B&B, is like a Currier & Ives print.  We’ve been snowshoeing lately, and it’s an exhilarating way to enjoy the beautiful winter trails.  This weekend, Notchview has a great offer, and it’s not far from Brook Farm Inn.  After skiing or snowshoeing, our hot tea and scones [...]

Snowman Sighting in the Berkshires

December 12th, 2009 by philhalpern

The  pristine snow that fell in Lenox a few days ago  resulted in the sighting of these winter friends at Brook Farm Inn.  The Berkshires are now ready for cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing.  The ski areas are making their own snow to add to nature’s bounty, and the scenery is great!

Trustees of Reservations Provide Gardens, Hiking Trails, Historic Homes

September 8th, 2009 by philhalpern

Here in the Berkshires, we treasure the Trustees of Reservations.  As a conservationist organization, they provide beautifully maintained, scenic hiking trails, historic homes to visit, and lovely gardens.  Among our favorite places is Naumkeag in Stockbridge (a gorgeous Stanford White home with gardens), and also Ashintully Gardens in Tyringham.  This weekend we’ll have perfect weather for [...]
