Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, is the ultimate destination of The Tanglewood Relay Run. It will take place June 27th, followed by an evening concert at Ozawa Hall featuring the Kenny Barron Trio. The relay takes 24 hours, and teams of 10 to 14 runners will participate in the 30 legs of the marathon. The relay begins at Symphony Hall in Boston and ends at Tanglewood in the Berkshires. The idea is to show how easy it is to attend a concert here in Western Massachusetts — if the distance can be run in 24 hours, then certainly a 2-hour drive is a piece of cake! Many of our guests actually come from much further away to enjoy the summer offerings in the Berkshires.
Purpose of the Tanglewood Relay Run
The run will highlight the opening of the Tanglewood season. It also supports education-related activities and programs sponsored by the Boston Symphony Orchestra. It was begun by two members of the orchestra who are avid runners as well as musicians, bassist Todd Seeber and violinist James Cooke.
