“Kiss Me Kate” is a fabulous production, now being performed at the Barrington Stage Co. in Pittsfield, MA. We saw it over the weekend and had a great time. The musical comedy is based on Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew” and was first performed in 1948. The music and lyrics were written by Cole Porter. Like the play itself, the music is timeless. Many familiar songs were written for this Tony Award winner — “So In Love,” “Too Darn Hot,” “From This Moment On,” “Always True to You In My Fashion,” to name a few.
Barrington Stage Co. is a Berkshires treasure, and “Kiss Me Kate” is one of their best musicals yet. The cast is filled with talented singers, dancers, and actors. The choreography was so wonderful, and the costumes so artful, that we were mesmerized. and everyone left the theater smiling and humming. The play revolves around two show business couples, showcasing their antics both onstage and off as they perform “The Taming of the Shrew.” Performances run through July 12, 2014.

We’re fortunate to have such a professional repertory company within a few minutes of Brook Farm Inn. The lineup for this season, on the theater’s two stages, includes ” An Enemy of the People,” “The Golem of Havana,” “Dancing Lessons,” and more.
