Memorial Day Weekend events in the Berkshires will offer lots of cultural opportunities and outdoors activities too . The warm weather is bringing us a lovely spring, so the natural beauty of the Berkshires will be a great backdrop for hiking and sightseeing. Here’s a sampling of what visitors to Brook Farm Inn can enjoy.
For anyone interested in musical performances, there will be a number of opportunities Memorial Day Weekend in the Berkshires. On Friday night, May 23rd, the West Stockbridge Chamber Players offer their annual spring concert. It’s at the historic 1854 Town Hall in West Stockbridge, and features professional musicians, a number of whom are members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Tickets include the reception following the concert. The program will benefit the West Stockbridge Historical Society.
Next, on Saturday, May 24th, the Berkshire Bach Society offers The Great Quintet Caper. They’ll perform works of Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Brahms, and Fasch. The concert takes place at Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center, a beautifully restored theater in Great Barrington.
Visitors to the Berkshires on Memorial Day Weekend can look forward to theater too. Shakespeare & Company is right around the corner from our Lenox inn, and they’ll be performing “Shakespeare’s Will.” It takes place in 1616 and explores the life of Anne Hathaway, Shakespeare’s wife.
One of our other favorite theaters is the Barrington Stage Co., where we plan to see “The Other Place.” It’s a mystery play starring Marg Helgenberg, who’s known for her TV role in “CSI.”
Museums and the Outdoors — Memorial Day and Any Time
As for museums and historical sights, The Mount, estate of Edith Wharton, is now open for the season. The Norman Rockwell Museum is always a must, and on Memorial Day Weekend the Gallery Talks will be offered. Hancock Shaker Village is a great place to visit in the spring, and there’s a new exhibit there in the Poultry House Gallery.
Visitors to Brook Farm Inn always ask us where to hike the beautiful Berkshire trails. Our favorite is Pleasant Valley, a MassAudubon wildlife sanctuary. The town of Lenox also has Kennedy Park, with lovely trails as well. So we’ll keep our visitors busy on Memorial Day Weekend and any other time.
