This summer Shakespeare & Company, located in Lenox MA, is rotating three plays at the Bernstein Theater. They are Parasite Drag, Cassandra Speaks, and The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife. Guests who have seen Cassandra Speaks have been giving it rave reviews. We plan on seeing it next week and the following week we have tickets for The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife.
We did see Parasite Drag in preview and were blown away by the production. It is a riveting, powerful new play about family relationships that unravel dramatically on stage. With the exception of newcomer Kate Abbruzzese, the cast of four has veteran S&Co actors. Jason Asprey is remarkable as Ronnie, the estranged brother. Josh Aaron McCabe demonstrates his acting range as Gene the younger brother. Elizabeth Aspenlieder, who is so wonderful in comic rolls, demonstrates her skill in drama as Gene’s wife. The whole cast is brilliant and the play is must-see theater. The play does have coarse language and adult situations. The review in the Berkshire Eagle was very favorable. However we don’t recommend that you read it, because it gives away too much of the plot.
