January 24, 2012 marks Edith Wharton’s 150th birthday. To honor her and to kick off a very special new season, The Mount will be hosting a birthday open house on Saturday, January 28 from 4-7 pm. Free and open to the public, the festivities will include a birthday toast, a movie, cake, and a reading.
Please arrive early, as seating for the screening is limited. A free shuttle will run a loop from the main lot to the mansion from 3:30 to 7 pm.
The afternoon and evening will include the following:
- Birthday toast to Edith Wharton
- Screening of The Old Maid, starring Bette Davis and based on Wharton’s story of the same name (95 minutes).
- Cake and refreshments
- A reading from Edith Wharton’s autobiography, A Backward Glance
