In the Berkshires, we’re proud to claim the tallest peak in Massachusetts, Mt. Greylock. This weekend the new road to the summit will open for the season, and Bascom Lodge opens for visitors as well. At the summit of Mt. Greylock, the lodge offers a restaurant, a gift shop, hiking information, but most especially the view! Mt. Greylock was supposedly Herman Melville’s visual inspiration for “Moby Dick,” because he viewed its whale-like shape from his home.
The opening will be celebrated Saturday and Sunday, May 15th and 16th, with a series of Native American performances. Information at 413-743-1591. Mt. Greylock is about 1/2 hour’s ride from Brook Farm Inn, our Lenox B&B,
